PAINTING

My project consists of three paintings, one that represents boredom/ my feelings in quarantine on the left, and the other two represent feelings of happiness on the right. I decided that my project would be paintings because I had canvases and acrylic paint at home, and I enjoy painting so I knew that doing this project would be stress-relieving. I wanted to do something that related to emotions because we had talked about the connection between art and emotion in class, and I wanted to relate my project to the pandemic, so I decided to do one painting to represent boredom in quarantine and another to represent happiness.
I made the painting representing boredom using simple shapes and colors, and did not do any blending or shading. I used tape to create the shapes, and then simply filled the lines in. I got the idea to do this from my sister because she made a painting using this strategy a little while ago. I especially felt that the use of the color grey made it read as boredom.
Originally, I was only going to make one painting to represent happiness, but when I saw the small canvases, I thought it would be cute to do two little ones. I knew that I wanted to paint leaves because nature is what makes me happy. I specifically chose to paint tropical-looking leaves because I love the beach, and I decided to put them on a soft pink background to make them pop while still using a fun, happy color.
This project was definitely stress-relieving for me because I love to paint and I don't usually have the time to. I already had the paint, brushes, tape, and canvases at home so I didn't have to worry about getting materials during this pandemic. I also found the process of thinking about how to express boredom and happiness using colors, shapes, objects, and painting styles very therapeutic. I will definitely continue to do projects like this throughout my time in quarantine.
